Job Summary:

Learning Assistants (LAs) primary role in the Learning Commons Department is to provide excellent services in support of college student success initiatives that also promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a friendly, inspiring, supportive and helpful work/learning environment.

LAs will be assigned to work in one or more of the following services area(s):
•  Academic resources and services support
•  Peer tutoring and mentoring

Essential job duties and responsibilities are unique for each service area:
•  LAs work as assigned throughout the semester and may be required to work evenings/weekends based on scheduling needs/availability
•  Must have proficient computer skills and ability to research Internet and utilize current software (i.e. MS Outlook, Word, Excel)                                                                                                                •  Must have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Additional Application Requirements:

•  LCC teaching faculty recommendation (upload with application or delivered to Learning Commons)
•  Successful completion of, or currently enrolled in, the LCC course(s) being recommended for peer tutoring and mentoring by an LCC teaching faculty
•  Experience tutoring, mentoring, teaching, and/or coaching (may be volunteer, internship or professional work experience)
•  Experience in customer service (may be volunteer, internship or professional work experience)
• 3.00 GPA or higher preferred at either LCC or from high school (most recent high school or college transcript(s) required to upload with application)

Requirements for LCC Student Employment:

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters in which they are attending classes as follows:
Enrolled and actively attending the following minimum total LCC credit hours by semester
     - Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits (taken over 16-week period)
     - Summer Semester = 3.0 credits (taken over 8-week period)
2.00 GPA minimum (unless it is the student's first semester of enrollment at LCC or approval to waive requirement is granted from the Student Employment Coordinator)

Note: International students (i.e. F-1 visa holders w/ valid I-20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS):
     - Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits (taken over 16-week period)
     - Summer Semester = 3.0 credits (taken over 8-week period)
