Connecting with these values, the Veteran & Military Affairs Coordinator, under direction of the Director of Veteran & Military Affairs, is charged with increasing military-connected student enrollment and retention at Lansing Community College (LCC) through implementation of the department’s strategic enrollment management plan.

The Veteran & Military Affairs Coordinator supports the efforts of the Office of Veteran and Military Affairs by developing and maintaining processes and policies that support the overall mission of military-connected student success pertaining to the utilization of VA Educational Benefits and success in the classroom. This position will represent the College at recruitment and community events relevant to military-connected students and is responsible for establishing, coordinating, and implementing college recruitment and retention related programs designed to enhance a student-centered approach to service. The Veteran & Military Affairs Coordinator will establish, maintain, and document communication with current and prospective military-connected students and advise on college services and community resources.

As LCC’s primary School Certifying Official, this position is responsible for ensuring proper payments to the students and the college from the VA for all VA Educational Benefits (GI Bill). The incumbent will serve as a liaison between students, Vocational Readiness and Employment (VR&E) Counselors, and Department of Veteran Affairs to maintain program integrity and to ensure compliance with applicable Federal and State regulations. The Veteran & Military Affairs Coordinator must stay current on regulations concerning military educational benefits to effectively and accurately advise students on changes or adjustments to benefit applications and eligibility.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of all VA GI Bill benefit chapters (Montgomery GI Bill, Vocational Readiness and Employment, Post 9/11, Dependent Educational Assistance, Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve)

Demonstrated experience working in a higher education, military, or similar setting.

Ability to travel and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience as School Certifying Official within a higher education institution

Recruiting experience for an educational institution.

Knowledge of VA operating software

Demonstrated experience with data analysis
