Job Summary:

***This is an on campus position with no remote opportunities. Lab Assistant's schedules may change each semester based on the Massage Clinic’s hours of operation. This may include night shifts. For instance, during the Summer the Massage Clinic is open select weekdays 10:10am-2:30pm & 5:40pm-10:00pm.***

Massage Lab Assistants are responsible for coaching, evaluating, and assisting students at all levels of massage instruction in both clinic and lab settings. They provide written and oral feedback, model skills taught, and administer hands-on exams in collaboration with the faculty of record. The Lab Assistant will also establish student goals to improve skills, submit grades for lab/clinic activities, and serve as a resource for students. Lab Assistants must be able to advise on students’ body mechanics, give instruction on the application of Swedish Massage, and teach surface muscle anatomy. They ensure all lab and clinic spaces are properly prepared, maintained, and cleaned to support instructional activities. They will perform customer service duties during clinic hours and serve as a backup to the Clinic Receptionist. An on-campus presence and traditional in-person teaching is required.

Lab Assistants must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy. They must work collaboratively with faculty to ensure course objectives are being met according to course syllabi and program outcomes, as well as continually adapts teaching strategies to support diverse learning styles and promote student success. Additional responsibilities may include participating in program meetings, professional development activities, student recruitment events, and other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications:

Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Current State of Michigan Massage Therapy License; certification must be maintained throughout the duration of employment.

Demonstrated experience practicing massage

Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Continuing education in body mechanics and/or biomechanics of movement and muscle anatomy

Teaching experience

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including email, electronic calendars, presentation software, etc.
