Job Summary:
Connecting with these values, the Full-Time Mental Health Counselor will provide emotional support to students experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, alcohol/drug abuse and any other type of emotional situation interfering with academic success. The Mental Health Counselor assists individual students and groups with personal, social, and academic concerns in a manner that adheres to licensing requirements in the state of Michigan for Licensed Professional Counselors, Licensed Master Social Workers, and Licensed Psychologists as well as their respective professional association’s code of ethics.
This position works closely with other Mental Health Counselors, administrators, and staff members in the Center for Student Support which includes: the Center for Student Access, Student Life, Fostering Stars, Adult Resource Center, and Perkins Special Populations. In addition, this position works closely with Academic Success Coaches, Academic Advisors, Career and Employment Services, Tutoring, and Public Safety. The Mental Health Counselor will also consult regularly with instructional faculty to address student concerns. Must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.
This position will require regular, on campus presence.
Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Required Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or Psychology from an accredited institution.
Significant demonstrated related work experience in mental health counseling.
Must possess one of the following licenses: Michigan Professional Counseling License (LPC), Michigan Professional Limited Counseling License (LLPC), Michigan Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW-Clinical), Michigan Limited Licensed Master Social Worker (LLMSW-Clinical), Licensed Psychologist (LP), or Limited Licensed Psychologist (LLP).
Experience working with diverse populations.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Higher education experience providing culturally competent treatment to a diverse population
Member in good standing in relevant professional association.
