Job Summary:

The Transfer Specialist (‘Specialist’) reports to the Director of the Transfer Center (‘Director’) and is an integral part of the broader Strategic Enrollment Management (SEM) team within the Student Affairs Division (‘Division’). The Transfer Specialist is charged with guiding diverse students through their time at Lansing Community College (LCC) in order to prepare them to transfer to external institutions and complete their post-secondary goals and education. The Specialist also promotes LCC’s Transfer Center (‘Center’) through internal events, classroom presentations, and student-focused workshops.

This position acts as a student advocate with 4-year institutions by individually assisting students with their quest for a higher degree by remaining in contact with all schools with articulated credit and understanding their processes, and by maintaining regular communication with each institution’s Registrar’s Office. An incumbent frequently meets one-on-one with students to advise them on the transfer process, course selection, transferability of courses to partnering and non-partnering colleges/universities, curriculum pathways, completion toward degrees or credentials, and general or specific transfer-related goals in order to increase retention and completion at LCC. The Specialist also hosts group workshops or events aimed at providing general or introductory information about exploring or transferring to 4-year institutions.

The Transfer Specialist will focus on building relationships through engagement platforms used at the College to promote LCC as a transfer pathway, and will employ a student-centered approach. This position collaborates with programs, and other administrative offices throughout the College, to reduce barriers to transfer, and works to increase LCC’s enrollment through messaging and promotion of the transfer process. The incumbent collaborates with, and provides training to, Admissions staff to promote the Transfer Center and LCC as the best route to achieve students’ transfer-related goals.

This position works closely with College and Transfer Center personnel to deliver relevant programming based on data that focuses on local, statewide and national trends, and supports the creation or revision of articulation agreements/pathways that benefit LCC students. In addition to staying up-to-date on articulation agreements and broader educational trends, the Specialist must understand any changes to curricula, pathways, or Degree Works systems.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.

Final candidates will be subject to a criminal background check as part of the employment process.
