Job Summary:

Connecting with these values, the Full-Time Professional Counselor will provide emotional support to students experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, relationship issues, alcohol/drug abuse and any other type of emotional situation interfering with academic success. The counselor assists individual students and groups with personal, social, and academic concerns in a manner that adheres to the counseling requirements of Licensed Professional Counselors in the State of Michigan and the ethical standards of the American Counseling Association.

This position works closely with counselors, administrators, and advisors in the Center for Student Support which includes: Center for Student Access, Office of Student Compliance, Fostering Stars, Adult Resource Center, Global Student Services, and Veterans. In addition, this position works closely with Academic Success Coaches, Academic Advisors, Career and Employment Services, Tutoring, and Public Safety. This counselor also consults regularly with instructional faculty to address student concerns. Must demonstrate a commitment to the diversity of a multi-cultural population, as well as work effectively in a team-based environment, seeking continuous improvement and adherence to the community college philosophy.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in Counseling from an accredited institution.

Significant demonstrated related work experience in mental health counseling.

Michigan Professional Counseling License (LPC) or Michigan Professional Limited License (LLPC).

Experience working with diverse populations.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Significant demonstrated related work experience in mental health counseling.

Michigan Professional Counseling License (LPC) or Michigan Professional Limited License (LLPC).

Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) credential

Higher education experience providing culturally competent treatment to a diverse population is strongly preferred.
