Job Summary:

The primary role of the Writing Assistant (WA) is to provide peer writing support to students across the college. WAs will be assigned work in the Writing Center in which they will support student writers one-on-one, and occasionally in small groups, as well as within Integrated English classrooms. WAs will work as assigned throughout the semester; evenings and weekends may be required. This position currently involves a combination of online real-time and in-person work. WAs are expected to attend staff meetings and perform occasional clerical tasks as assigned.

Additional Position Requirements:

• Faculty Recommendation Form and Application Addendum Form included with application
• High School Diploma, or GED, or two semesters LCC Early College
• Minimum GPA of 2.50 at LCC or from high school, if an Early College student (most recent high school or college transcript(s) required to upload with application)
• Completion of English 121/131 with minimum 3.5 grade (or equivalent college-level first-semester composition course grade from another institution)
• Proficient in basic computer applications and communication tools with an ability to access the Internet

Requirements for LCC Student Employment:

The primary purpose of student employment is to provide current LCC students the opportunity to acquire job skills and experiences during semesters in which they are attending classes as follows:
Enrolled and actively attending the following minimum total LCC credit hours by semester:
     - Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 6.0 credits (taken over 16-week period)
     - Summer Semester = 3.0 credits (taken over 8-week period)
2.00 GPA minimum (unless it is the student's first semester of enrollment at LCC or approval to waive requirement is granted from the Student Employment Coordinator)

Note: International students (i.e. F-1 visa holders w/ valid I-20 issued by LCC) must meet the following minimum enrollment requirements each semester, in order to maintain employment eligibility per United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USICS):
     - Fall and/or Spring Semester(s) = 12.0 credits (taken over 16-week period)
     - Summer Semester = 3.0 credits (taken over 8-week period)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Minimum GPA of 3.0 at LCC or from high school if an Early College student (most recent high school or college transcript(s) required to upload with application)
• Completion of English 122/132 with minimum 3.0 grade (or equivalent college-level advanced composition course grade from another institution)
• Experience with peer assistance (tutoring, mentoring, teaching, and/or coaching, which may volunteer, internship, or paid work experience)
• Experience in customer service (may be volunteer, internship, or paid work experience)
